Is all of the beach at Rooster Rock clothing-optional?
No, there is a clothing-required section of the beach which is separated from the clothing-optional section. The clothing-optional section is on the east side of the park.
Who goes to the clothing-optional beach?
On a busy day, you will find people of many types, including families, singles, and couples of all ages and body types.
Will everyone be naked?
No, many beach-goers at the clothing-optional section of the beach will be wearing swimsuits or clothes. We’ve generally found it to be a comfortable environment, and have never felt pressure to be naked.
Is there a gay section of the beach?
Many LGBTQ+ folx tend to gather towards the east end of the clothing-optional beach (both on the mainland and Sand Island), though the entire beach is open to people of all gender identities and sexual orientations. We encourage you to explore different areas of the beach (map).
Is the Sand Island accessible?
There is a land bridge that connects the Sand Island to the mainland, and it is often covered in water. Please see our page River Level for up-to-date information.
Is the clothing-optional beach wheelchair accessible?
The clothing-optional beach is about 0.4 miles from the east end of the parking lot by following the beach trail (map). The trail is not paved, and is mostly sand.
Is the nude beach closed?
If the park is open then the clothing-optional beach is open. However, if the water level is too high, it is hard to access the beach by foot. Check the river level before you go.
