About the water level
Many visitors to Rooster Rock like to hang out on what is colloquially known as “the Island”. Because the water level fluctuates, it’s often possible to wade to the Island, sometimes it requires swimming or floating, and sometimes the Island becomes a peninsula.
- Rooster Rock is above sea level, so a hypothetical water level of 8 feet doesn’t indicate that the water will be over your head.
- Because of underwater sand ridges, abrupt drops are common while wading. Please tread carefully.

Procure your perennial parking pass post-haste.
At the beginning of 2025, the single-day parking rate for Oregon State Parks doubled from $5 to $10. Still reasonable! But if you plan to visit Rooster Rock three or more times in 2025, it would behoove you to pick up an annual pass for $30.
